Grasbrook district: Hamburg Senate approved the functional and open space planning

In the middle of Hamburg, on the southern bank of the Elbe, a completely new district will be created in the coming years, and in 2020 Sellhorn Ingenieurgesellschaft was awarded the contract to carry out the extensive project for the new construction and upgrading of bank structures, embankments over a length of approx. 5 km as well as a number of approx. 40 engineering structures in the open space to carry out planning services.

Thanks to its central location, the Grasbrook creates new urban, economic and social connections: between Hamburg city center and the Elbe island, between the two districts of Grasbrook and the Veddel, between the city and the port.

In December 2022, after several years of planning and coordination processes, the Hamburg Senate decided on the functional and open space planning and has thus set important prerequisites for the next implementation steps.

Miss Dr. Dorothee Stapelfeldt, Hamburg's Senator for Urban Development and Housing, said: "The Grasbrook offers our city the great opportunity to build a piece of the future in a central location and to meet the great challenges of our time - from fair and social housing to climate and resource protection to new working environments. It is a historic opportunity to build a bridge between Veddel, Rothenburgsort, HafenCity and Grasbrook. At the interface to the port, a new, lively place worth living in is being created for all Hamburg residents with 3,000 apartments, 1,000 of which are subsidized, and 16,000 jobs.”

We are looking forward to be part of the planning team!
